Welcome to the White Wilderness experience.
In almost every regard, White Wilderness Heliskiing is the ideal destination within the Canadian province already known as "Beautiful British Columbia". 30 km east of Terrace BC, our lodge lies nestled in picture-postcard countryside.
It is right by the Skeena River, which is rich in salmon and rainbow trout. Pristine, rugged and remote, this area is the true embodiment of “untamed Canada”.
In winter, White Wilderness lives up to its name, with lofty peaks covered meters-deep in virgin powder snow. It’s no wonder that the people of the native Tsimshian First Nation call this region "Ganeeks Laxha" – meaning “stairway to heaven”.
From the waters of the world-famous Skeena River, the mountains rise up from just above sea level to 2,800 meters altitude. From glacial runs of 1,200 meters, ending in distant valleys, to an overwhelming diversity of alpine runs and mighty forest glades, the area we cover offers an impressive variety of skiing and snowboarding which appeals to both experienced Heliskiers and beginners. And have we mentioned that we have a lot of powder snow here? Moisture-saturated air rises from the Pacific and – together with our drier, colder, high-altitude location in the heart of the Nass and Hazelton Ranges – delivers perfect conditions for what has made British Columbia so famous: deep Canadian powder snow!
If you are looking for pristine and ungroomed glacial and forest runs in small groups, with us you will find over 2,500 km2 of spectacular heli-terrain. Our experienced pilots will fly you to the most beautiful spots.
This is a fundamental part of the culture at White Wilderness Heliskiing. We value safety above all else. Risk is a part of life, and risk is a part of the heli ski experience, but we endeavor – day in and day out – to do everything that we reasonably can to mitigate that risk by making solid, informed and well-balanced decisions in the mountains.
All of our guides have been trained to the highest and most rigorous international standards. Each is a member of either the ACMG (Association of Canadian Mountain Guides) or the IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations). Each guide also holds certifications through the Canadian Avalanche Association and has emergency wilderness medical training.
White Wilderness Heliskiing is a Full Member of HeliCat Canada, a national standards association which is dedicated to developing and holding it's members accountable to the highest operating standards in the industry; to supporting research programs that will better our land use practices; to educating ourselves and the public about current trends in safety and risk management; and to promoting the continual improvement of the helicopter and snowcat skiing industry. Our guides are here for your safety. They’re here to find you the best possible skiing. They’re here to host you on the first of many trips of a lifetime – in the mountains they love.
We fly with only 4/5 guests + 1 guide per group. Depending on your chosen program (classic, semi-private, private) you fly with 1 to max. 3 groups per helicopter.
You fly with one of our modern and powerful Eurocopter AS350 B2 (A-star B2) or Bell 407 helicopters. Our heliski pilots are very experienced and know our heliski area very well.
The remote wilderness experience that is offered by helicopter skiing operations in Canada tends also to come at a price in the form of complex logistics and/or long travel times. White Wilderness Heli Skiing is the exception to the rule.
Terrace lays legitimate claim to being the most accessible heli ski destination in the country. Getting here is easy: one short flight from either Calgary or Vancouver International airports brings you to the Northwest Regional Airport where we’ll pick you up and drive you to the front steps of our lodge on the Skeena River – only 25 minutes away. No helicopter flights, highway closures, mountain passes or car rentals. There are numerous daily flights in and out of Terrace and the reliability of our airport is extremely good. In fact, we’ve even had guests from as far away from New York City fly here on Friday, ski a 3-day weekend package and return home on a red-eye in time for work on Tuesday morning; that’s max 2 days off a regular work week to a ski 3 full days of bottomless untracked Canadian powder.
Upon arrival at the Northwest Regional Airport in Terrace, BC, a member of our staff will be there to greet you and transfer you directly to our lodge, by car 20-minute drive or with Helicopter 5 minutes flight to our front steps. And the rest is up to us.
